Huntington Christmas tree recycling program

For those of us with real trees this Christmas season, it's important to dispose of it once the holiday season is over. Dried out tree branches and needles can create a fire hazard. The City of Huntington asks for you not to set trees out with your household garbage, as the sap can damage their trash collecting trucks and equipment. So what can you do?
Luckily Huntington participates in a program to recycle old trees. The trees get used by our WV park system to create habitats for fish in our lakes. There are five free drop-off locations for the trees:
- St. Cloud Commons (upper parking lot)
- Harris Riverfront Park (upper parking lot on the 12th Street end)
- Altizer Community Park
- West end of the former Olympic Pool property
- Deitz Hollow drop-off site. The times for this specific location are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month.
Recycling your Christmas tree is a benefit for the environment and for our state and national parks.
